Week 2 Highlights, Week 3 Printout, and NOVEL QUIZ*

 Hi parents and students!

Another week has gone by and here's what happened:

  • We started our descriptive writing unit. I had the students create their own monster and write 1-2 body paragraphs to describe what it looks like. It was surely fun to see the students express their creativity. For those that are interested, here is how we score each writing assignment. The same rubric will be used for their final exam.

Content- The essay communicates descriptive ideas that are supported by relevant details.

Organization- The essay is structured with a clear introduction (hook and thesis), body (topic sentence, details, and concluding sentence), and conclusion. Each paragraph has at least 5 sentences.

Grammar and Vocabulary- The student uses relevant vocabulary that enhances expression of ideas and has little to no spelling errors. The essay has minimal errors in punctuation, capitalization, and noun-verb agreement.

Creativity- Original ideas and details are incorporated in the essay that enhances essay quality.

Legibility- The essay is easy to read, properly spaced, has proper letter formation and paragraph indentation.
